Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, synthetic filament tow exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Peru (X tons), distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the major exporters of synthetic filament tow and staple fibers, not carded or combed, together committing 99% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +42.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of synthetic filament tow and staple fibers, not carded or combed increased by 26% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, synthetic filament tow imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) was the largest importer of synthetic filament tow and staple fibers, not carded or combed, achieving 55% of total imports. Peru (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Colombia (9.8%), Argentina (9.5%) and Chile (7.3%). Ecuador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the synthetic filament tow and staple fibers, not carded or combed imports, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+4.8%), Peru (+4.3%), Argentina (+3.9%) and Colombia (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ecuador (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil increased by +21 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 9.7% share.
