After two years of decline, overseas shipments of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments increased by 5.5% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 20%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, organic pigments exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Brazil was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 59% of total exports. Peru (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Colombia (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Argentina (X tons). All these countries together held near 36% share of total exports. Chile (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments. At the same time, Paraguay (+37.3%) and Chile (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +37.3% from 2012-2021. Colombia and Uruguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-13.4%) and Peru (-15.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay increased by +21, +4.3, +2.5, +1.9 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Peru ($X) and Colombia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 90% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Paraguay, which together accounted for a further 9.9%.
Paraguay, with a CAGR of +38.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, growing by 31% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, organic pigments export price increased by +104.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 41% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+20.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, overseas purchases of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments increased by 31% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports showed a modest increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, organic pigments imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil represented the key importer of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Colombia (12%), Peru (11%) and Chile (6.8%). Ecuador (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the share of Peru and Chile increased by +2.4 and +1.9 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments in MERCOSUR, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 11% share.
In Brazil, organic pigments imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+2.4% per year) and Argentina (+0.9% per year).

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton.
