In value terms, cotton table linen exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X tons) represented the major exporter of table linen of cotton, constituting 65% of total exports. Chile (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Argentina (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 33% share of total exports.
Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -7.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Paraguay (+9.8%) and Chile (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +9.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile and Paraguay increased by +11 and +4.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest cotton table linen supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 6% share.
In Brazil, cotton table linen exports declined by an average annual rate of -7.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-21.6% per year) and Argentina (-10.0% per year).

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Brazil ($X per ton) and Paraguay ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) and Chile ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR
Cotton table linen imports dropped markedly to X tons in 2022, declining by -25.1% compared with 2021. In general, imports recorded a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton table linen imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Chile (X tons) represented the key importer of table linen of cotton, generating 51% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Uruguay (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Colombia (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total imports. The following importers - Paraguay (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) - together made up 5.1% of total imports.
Imports into Chile increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Paraguay (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Brazil (-1.8%), Uruguay (-3.2%), Peru (-6.4%), Colombia (-14.3%) and Argentina (-15.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile, Brazil and Paraguay increased by +22, +3.5 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest cotton table linen importing markets in MERCOSUR were Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports. Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Paraguay, with a CAGR of +9.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
