Exports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, exports of telecommunications instruments in MERCOSUR shrank to X units, with a decrease of -5.6% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 1,411%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, telecommunications instrument exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 717% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil was the major exporter of telecommunications instruments in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uruguay (X units), comprising an 11% share of total exports. Argentina (X units), Ecuador (X units), Chile (X units), Colombia (X units) and Peru (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -2.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uruguay (+20.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +20.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-3.3%), Argentina (-7.0%), Chile (-7.7%), Peru (-8.0%) and Ecuador (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uruguay and Brazil increased by +9.8 and +6.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest telecommunications instrument supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uruguay ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 9.3% share.
In Brazil, telecommunications instrument exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uruguay (+0.2% per year) and Chile (-4.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 116% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, purchases abroad of telecommunications instruments increased by 17% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, telecommunications instrument imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Brazil represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 55% of total imports. Colombia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Paraguay (X units), Argentina (X units) and Ecuador (X units). All these countries together held near 39% share of total imports. Chile (X units) and Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -8.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+12.8%) and Paraguay (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +12.8% from 2012-2021. Ecuador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-7.4%), Argentina (-7.4%) and Peru (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Colombia (+13 p.p.), Paraguay (+7.4 p.p.) and Ecuador (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Peru (-1.5 p.p.) and Brazil (-15.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported telecommunications instruments in MERCOSUR, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Ecuador, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at -13.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+0.3% per year) and Ecuador (+3.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 10%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
