In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 43%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, concrete tile exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 56%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Argentina was the largest exporter of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), mixing up a 32% share of total exports. Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Argentina increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Brazil (+26.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +26.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Colombia (-21.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+27 p.p.) and Argentina (+24 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia saw its share reduced by -42% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Argentina ($X), Brazil ($X) and Colombia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 97% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Brazil, with a CAGR of +6.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -25.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (-1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, overseas purchases of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone increased by 6.2% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, concrete tile imports rose to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Brazil represented the key importer of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. Uruguay (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Chile (X tons). All these countries together took near 45% share of total imports. Peru (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +20.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
