In 2021, the MERCOSUR toilet and kitchen linen market increased by 7.3% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, toilet and kitchen linen production rose notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, toilet and kitchen linen exports in MERCOSUR soared to X units, surging by 62% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, toilet and kitchen linen exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild setback. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Colombia was the main exporter of toilet and kitchen linen in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was approx. 71% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), comprising a 24% share of total exports. Chile (X units) and Paraguay (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Colombia increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Paraguay (+115.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +115.4% from 2012-2021. Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Colombia and Paraguay increased by +11 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Colombia ($X) remains the largest toilet and kitchen linen supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Colombia amounted to +2.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-4.6% per year) and Chile (-13.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 4.9%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (-1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of toilet and kitchen linen increased by 95% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, toilet and kitchen linen imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Chile prevails in imports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 68% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Peru (X units) and Colombia (X units), together comprising a 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Uruguay (X units), Ecuador (X units), Argentina (X units) and Venezuela (X units) - together made up 14% of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the toilet and kitchen linen imports, with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+10.0%) and Uruguay (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-6.4%), Argentina (-7.0%) and Venezuela (-18.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+36 p.p.) and Ecuador (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -3.9%, -5.3% and -18.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported toilet and kitchen linen in MERCOSUR, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Peru (-0.3% per year) and Colombia (-6.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -12.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 9.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per unit), while Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Venezuela (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
