Vegetable Puree Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR vegetable puree market amounted to $X in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Vegetable Puree Production in MERCOSUR

In value terms, vegetable puree production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, exports of vegetable puree in MERCOSUR surged to X tons, jumping by 77% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 165%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 58% of total exports. Peru (X tons) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ecuador (7.8%). Argentina (X kg) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vegetable puree exports from Brazil stood at -9.3%. At the same time, Argentina (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ecuador (-7.6%) and Peru (-22.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Ecuador and Argentina increased by +29, +4.6 and +3.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest vegetable puree supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Ecuador, with a 3.5% share.

In Brazil, vegetable puree exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (-21.1% per year) and Ecuador (+3.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 109% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 162% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+17.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vegetable Puree Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, approx. X tons of vegetable puree were imported in MERCOSUR; increasing by 45% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 102%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Suriname (X tons), distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons) were the key importers of vegetable puree, together generating 90% of total imports. Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Venezuela ($X) and Suriname ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

Colombia, with a CAGR of +28.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -14.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
