After four years of decline, shipments abroad of window or wall air conditioning systems, self-contained or split-systems increased by 258% to X units in 2022. In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the main exporter of window or wall air conditioning systems, self-contained or split-systems, creating 59% of total exports. Chile (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Uruguay (X units) and Colombia (X units). All these countries together held approx. 31% share of total exports. Guyana (X units) and Ecuador (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +20.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uruguay (+35.4%), Colombia (+23.0%), Chile (+21.7%) and Guyana (+14.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +35.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ecuador (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+45 p.p.), Chile (+11 p.p.), Uruguay (+7.5 p.p.), Colombia (+6.4 p.p.) and Guyana (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Ecuador (-4.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest window, wall, or split air conditioning system supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 10% share.
In Chile, exports of window or wall air conditioning systems, self-contained or split-systems expanded at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+6.2% per year) and Colombia (+30.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -24.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 107%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Guyana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of window or wall air conditioning systems, self-contained or split-systems, when their volume decreased by -2% to X units. In general, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of window or wall air conditioning systems, self-contained or split-systems declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of imports of window or wall air conditioning systems, self-contained or split-systems in 2022 were Colombia (X units), Chile (X units), Venezuela (X units), Paraguay (X units) and Ecuador (X units), together amounting to 84% of total import. It was distantly followed by Uruguay (X units), achieving an 8.3% share of total imports. Guyana (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +16.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Chile ($X), Paraguay ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 57% of total imports. Venezuela, Uruguay, Ecuador and Guyana lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
Guyana, with a CAGR of +13.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 13%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($X per unit), while Venezuela ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
