In 2021, exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates in MERCOSUR expanded slightly to X cubic meters, increasing by 4.7% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates reached $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 98%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Brazil prevails in agglomerates structure, accounting for X cubic meters, which was near 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Venezuela (X cubic meters), mixing up a 7.7% share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates exports, with a CAGR of +119.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Venezuela (+48.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Imports in MERCOSUR

Imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to X cubic meters in 2021, picking up by 32% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +139.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 57%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the largest importer of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports finishing at X cubic meters, which was approx. 64% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uruguay (X cubic meters), Peru (X cubic meters) and Paraguay (X cubic meters), together creating a 29% share of total imports. Chile (X cubic meters) and Argentina (X cubic meters) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates imports into Brazil stood at -3.0%. At the same time, Paraguay (+63.2%), Peru (+44.0%), Uruguay (+41.4%) and Argentina (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +63.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uruguay (+18 p.p.), Peru (+5 p.p.) and Paraguay (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Chile (-2.2 p.p.) and Brazil (-28.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Peru ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 59% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +37.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per cubic meter, reducing by -31.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 41%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per cubic meter), while Brazil ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
