The MERCOSUR wooden kitchen furniture market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In general, exports showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, wooden kitchen furniture exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +63.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Brazil was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units), mixing up an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden kitchen furniture exports from Brazil stood at -4.0%. At the same time, Colombia (+17.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Colombia increased by +9.4 percentage points.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest wooden kitchen furniture supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of wooden furniture for kitchens, when their volume decreased by -38.2% to X units. Overall, imports saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, wooden kitchen furniture imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the main importing country with an import of around X units, which accounted for 36% of total imports. Peru (X units) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uruguay (16%), Colombia (14%) and Venezuela (9.8%). Paraguay (X units) and Ecuador (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wooden furniture for kitchens imports, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Colombia (+4.3%) and Ecuador (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Uruguay (-1.3%), Paraguay (-3.3%) and Venezuela (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+25 p.p.), Colombia (+6.7 p.p.) and Peru (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Venezuela (-28.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wooden furniture for kitchens in MERCOSUR, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uruguay ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 12% share.

In Chile, wooden kitchen furniture imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uruguay (+1.0% per year) and Colombia (+0.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
