The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Peru (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the woven pile fabrics and chenille fabrics exports, with a CAGR of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Peru (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Peru saw its share reduced by -3.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest pile and chenille fabric supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 31% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (+5.5% per year) and Colombia (+1.4% per year).

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+11.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, the amount of woven pile fabrics and chenille fabrics imported in MERCOSUR surged to X tons, increasing by 40% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons), together comprising a 43% share of total imports. Uruguay (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ecuador (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest pile and chenille fabric importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Colombia ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports. Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Ecuador, with a CAGR of +8.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
