In 2022, the Mexican broom, brush, and mop market decreased by -0.7% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after five years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant increase. Broom, brush, and mop consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X units) was the main destination for broom, brush, and mop exports from Mexico, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia (X units), with a 2.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to -2.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+0.6% per year) and Guatemala (+6.5% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for brooms, brushes, and mops exports from Mexico, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops increased by 9.9% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after seven years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 68%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.
