Cadmium Market Size in Mexico

The Mexican cadmium market surged to $X in 2022, jumping by 168% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a prominent expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Cadmium Production in Mexico

In value terms, cadmium production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 88%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of cadmium increased by 35% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 100%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The UK (X tons), China (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main destinations of cadmium exports from Mexico, together comprising 72% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +10.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and the UK ($X) were the largest markets for cadmium exported from Mexico worldwide, together accounting for 73% of total exports.

India, with a CAGR of +18.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

The average cadmium export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, cadmium export price decreased by -5.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 65% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+36.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of cadmium, when their volume increased by 422% to X tons. In general, imports recorded a resilient increase. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw resilient growth. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) was the main supplier of cadmium to Mexico, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, cadmium imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belgium totaled +15.3%.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest cadmium suppliers to Mexico.

The United States, with a CAGR of +30.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review.

Import Prices by Country

The average cadmium import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 109%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium stood at $X per ton.
