Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Honduras (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Mexico
In 2022, purchases abroad of cocoa powder (not sweetened) decreased by -44.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cocoa powder imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of cocoa powder imports to Mexico, together comprising 89% of total imports. Spain, Cote d'Ivoire, Italy and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.9%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +32.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), the United States ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest cocoa powder suppliers to Mexico, together comprising 87% of total imports. Spain, Cote d'Ivoire, Italy and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +23.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average cocoa powder import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 29%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Spain ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
