In value terms, composite paperboard exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports faced a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 433% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Bolivia (X tons) was the main destination for composite paperboard exports from Mexico, accounting for a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, composite paperboard exports to Bolivia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Dominican Republic (X tons), tenfold. The United States (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.1% share.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of composite paperboard to Mexico, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, composite paperboard imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.
