The United States (X units) was the main destination for automotive lighting exports from Mexico, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, automotive lighting exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brazil (X units), more than tenfold. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +12.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+24.1% per year) and Canada (+33.4% per year).

In 2021, the average automotive lighting export price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Imports into Mexico
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of automotive lighting increased by 30% to X units in 2021. In general, imports showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 59%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, automotive lighting imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United States (X units), China (X units) and Japan (X units) were the main suppliers of automotive lighting imports to Mexico, together comprising 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea and Germany, which together accounted for a further 21%.
