In value terms, imitation jewellery exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for imitation jewellery exports from Mexico, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by El Salvador ($X), with a 1.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 1.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +4.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: El Salvador (+1.2% per year) and Guatemala (-18.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average imitation jewellery export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -16.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+24.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest imitation jewellery supplier to Mexico, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, imitation jewellery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -10.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-6.3% per year) and Italy (+0.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of imitation jewellery to Mexico, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-3.3% per year) and Italy (+1.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average imitation jewellery import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imitation jewellery import price increased by +79.9% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 14%.
