Insecticide Market Size in Mexico

In 2021, the Mexican insecticide market decreased by -26.7% to $X, falling for the fifth consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. Exports from Mexico

In 2021, shipments abroad of insecticides increased by 52% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, insecticide exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +104.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for insecticide exports from Mexico, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, insecticide exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Colombia (X tons), fourfold. Peru (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled +2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+35.5% per year) and Peru (+21.2% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for insecticides exports from Mexico, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +4.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+20.7% per year) and Costa Rica (+5.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average insecticide export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -27.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were El Salvador ($X per ton) and Honduras ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru ($X per ton) and Colombia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nicaragua (+18.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico

In 2021, overseas purchases of insecticides increased by 27% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, insecticide imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest insecticide supplier to Mexico, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, insecticide imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States totaled +3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+39.0% per year) and China (+12.6% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of insecticides to Mexico, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States totaled +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+11.8% per year) and Colombia (+30.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average insecticide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -18.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 159% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
