Nitrites Market Size in Mexico

In 2021, the Mexican nitrites market decreased by -46.4% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, consumption showed a deep contraction. Nitrites consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of nitrites increased by 203% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports posted measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 446% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, nitrites exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 614% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Canada (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) were the main destinations of nitrites exports from Mexico, with a combined 91% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +168.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Canada ($X), Colombia ($X) and Costa Rica ($X) constituted the largest markets for nitrites exported from Mexico worldwide, together comprising 82% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +242.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nitrites export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, nitrites export price increased by +57.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 31% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Venezuela (+108.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of nitrites decreased by -34.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nitrites imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nitrites to Mexico, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, nitrites imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fourfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States amounted to +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+24.3% per year) and Germany (-44.5% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X), India ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest nitrites suppliers to Mexico, together accounting for 96% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +6.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

The average nitrites import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -22.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
