Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports from Mexico, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), fourfold. Guatemala (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +4.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-0.5% per year) and Guatemala (+10.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exported from Mexico were the United States ($X), India ($X) and China ($X), together comprising 53% of total exports.
India, with a CAGR of +11.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico
In 2021, supplies from abroad of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium decreased by -12.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports reduced sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 81%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium to Mexico, with a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Peru (X tons), with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States totaled -11.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-20.9% per year) and Peru (+66.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest phosphorus, arsenic and selenium suppliers to Mexico were the UK ($X), the United States ($X) and Peru ($X), with a combined 74% share of total imports.
