Polycarbonate Market Size in Mexico

The Mexican polycarbonate market fell to $X in 2022, dropping by -10.9% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, polycarbonate exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The United States (X tons), China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of polycarbonate exports from Mexico, with a combined 90% share of total exports.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest polycarbonate supplier to Mexico, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, polycarbonate imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), twofold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+10.3% per year) and China (+39.6% per year).

In 2022, the average polycarbonate import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 113% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
