The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) was the main supplier of paddy rice to Mexico, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, paddy rice imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+74.5% per year) and Uruguay (-33.9% per year).
