Exports from Mexico

Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes exports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 160%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Honduras (X kg) was the main destination for roasted coffee substitutes exports from Mexico, accounting for a 92% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey (X kg), with a 2.2% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by Guatemala (X kg), with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Honduras amounted to +225.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-53.4% per year) and Guatemala (+1.0% per year).
In value terms, Honduras ($X) remains the key foreign market for roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes exports from Mexico, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guatemala ($X), with a 5.6% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Honduras totaled +321.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Guatemala (+35.7% per year) and China (0.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average roasted coffee substitutes export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 420% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a significant increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Trinidad and Tobago (+96.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico
In 2021, purchases abroad of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes increased by 2.4% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1,070%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 3,205% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United States (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of roasted coffee substitutes imports to Mexico, with a combined 76% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Germany and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes to Mexico, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Switzerland stood at +18.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+28.1% per year) and Spain (+40.2% per year).
