Safety Glass Market Size in Mexico

The Mexican safety glass market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after three years of decline. Overall, the total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, safety glass production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 5.1%. Safety glass production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of safety glass, when their volume decreased by -37.9% to X square meters. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 173%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, safety glass exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +96.2% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The United States (X square meters) was the main destination for safety glass exports from Mexico, accounting for a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia (X square meters), with a 0.4% share of total exports. Canada (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States stood at +10.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (-16.4% per year) and Canada (-35.0% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for safety glass exports from Mexico, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 0.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 0.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +6.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (-32.3% per year) and Colombia (-15.3% per year).

In 2021, the average safety glass export price amounted to $X per square meter, which is down by -47.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 75% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico

In 2022, approx. X square meters of safety glass were imported into Mexico; rising by 17% against the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, safety glass imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The United States (X square meters), China (X square meters) and South Korea (X square meters) were the main suppliers of safety glass imports to Mexico, together comprising 96% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +140.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the largest safety glass suppliers to Mexico, with a combined 89% share of total imports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
