In 2018, the amount of snails (except sea snails) imported into Mexico soared to X tons, increasing by 143% on 2017 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a deep setback. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, snail imports surged to $X in 2018. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2018, China (X tons) was the main supplier of snail to Mexico, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, snail imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +16.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-32.0% per year) and France (-43.6% per year).
