Wallpaper Market Size in Mexico
The Mexican wallpaper market declined to $X in 2021, shrinking by -12% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -32.0% against 2018 indices. Wallpaper consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Mexico
In 2021, the amount of wallpaper and wall coverings exported from Mexico skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 55% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 588%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wallpaper exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 505%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for wallpaper exports from Mexico, with a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, wallpaper exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X kg), more than tenfold. Panama (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +18.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+49.4% per year) and Panama (+8.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for wallpaper and wall coverings exports from Mexico, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States totaled +34.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (+30.3% per year) and Belgium (+27.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wallpaper export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 118% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico
In 2021, overseas purchases of wallpaper and wall coverings were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 79%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wallpaper imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -34.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 60%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest wallpaper supplier to Mexico, accounting for a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, wallpaper imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +27.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+8.8% per year) and the United States (+0.7% per year).
In value terms, the largest wallpaper suppliers to Mexico were China ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +23.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wallpaper import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -23.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
