In 2021, the Middle Eastern aluminium bar market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by 94% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium bar exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a temperate expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), creating an 8.8% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aluminium bars, rods and profiles exports, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+3.8%) and Saudi Arabia (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.2%) and Bahrain (-32.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +63 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest aluminium bar supplier in the Middle East, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +17.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-4.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+0.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by 12% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium bar imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Israel (X tons) was the main importer of aluminium bars, rods and profiles, creating 31% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Oman (X tons), together generating a 54% share of total imports.

Israel was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aluminium bars, rods and profiles imports, with a CAGR of +22.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Yemen (+12.3%), Kuwait (+8.4%) and Iraq (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.8%), Oman (-4.5%) and Saudi Arabia (-19.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Israel, Iraq, Yemen and Kuwait increased by +27, +5.4, +5 and +4.6 percentage points, respectively. In value terms, Israel ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium bars, rods and profiles in the Middle East, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iraq ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Israel totaled +22.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iraq (+3.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-2.9% per year).

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
