Imports by Country

Israel was the largest importer of anchovies (prepared or preserved) in the Middle East, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 54% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together generating a 37% share of total imports. Turkey (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Israel decreased at an average annual rate of -2.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+45.9%), the United Arab Emirates (+24.8%), Bahrain (+23.1%) and Kuwait (+16.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +45.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+21 p.p.), Kuwait (+6.1 p.p.), Bahrain (+4.9 p.p.) and Turkey (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported anchovies (prepared or preserved) in the Middle East, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 6.6% share.

In Israel, preserved anchovies imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+21.4% per year) and Kuwait (+12.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, falling by -7.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%.
