In value terms, articles of fiber cement exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the main exporter of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like, mixing up 77% of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 19% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+14.9%) and Tunisia (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkey (+17 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (+4.3 p.p.) and Tunisia (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-13.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest articles of fiber cement supplier in MENA, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 4.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 4.3% share.

In Turkey, articles of fiber cement exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+12.3% per year) and Tunisia (+0.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, supplies from abroad of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like increased by 6.2% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 29%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, articles of fiber cement imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the major importer of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like in MENA, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 42% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons), Israel (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Libya (X tons), together creating a 47% share of total imports. Algeria (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Qatar (+16.7%), Libya (+14.0%), Iraq (+11.0%) and Israel (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2022. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (-22.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Israel and Libya increased by +15, +12, +5.8, +5.5 and +3.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Iraq ($X) and Israel ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 57% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +17.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, declining by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($X per ton), while Libya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
