Baby clothes exports dropped to X tons in 2022, which is down by -13.9% on the previous year. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +14.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, baby clothes exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 60%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Tunisia (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - together made up 5.9% of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) exports, with a CAGR of +12.3% from 2012 to 2022. Egypt (-1.5%) and Tunisia (-5.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey increased by +40 percentage points.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest baby clothes supplier in MENA, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +9.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (-3.8% per year) and Egypt (-3.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after five years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted), when their volume increased by 22% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, baby clothes imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt represented the key importer of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) in MENA, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 30% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Libya (X tons), together creating a 49% share of total imports. Israel (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Oman (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to baby clothes imports into Egypt stood at -15.1%. At the same time, Libya (+19.9%), Iraq (+12.3%), Oman (+8.1%), Yemen (+3.5%), Israel (+3.2%) and Qatar (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Libya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +19.9% from 2012-2022. Algeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-3.1%) and Saudi Arabia (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Iraq (+12 p.p.), Libya (+10 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+4.7 p.p.), Israel (+2.2 p.p.) and Yemen (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Egypt (-34.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 61% of total imports. Iraq, Israel, Yemen, Qatar, Libya, Oman and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Yemen, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, waning by -4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 109%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Libya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+18.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
