Ball Market Size in MENA
In 2022, the MENA's ball market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Ball Production in MENA
In value terms, ball production rose modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 139% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Ball Exports
Exports in MENA
Ball exports contracted to X units in 2022, which is down by -8.1% against the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 49%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ball exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 51% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Palestine (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Iran (X units) and Oman (X units), together achieving a 42% share of total exports. The following exporters - Egypt (X units) and Israel (X units) - together made up 5% of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+46.8%), Egypt (+31.9%) and Israel (+18.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +46.8% from 2012-2022. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Palestine (-11.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (-16.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Oman and Israel increased by +40, +8.7, +3.2, +2.1 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest ball supplier in MENA, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with an 11% share.
In Turkey, ball exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-15.4% per year) and Oman (+17.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, waning by -54.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per unit), while Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+17.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ball Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of balls imported in MENA surged to X units, growing by 18% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ball imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the main importing country with an import of about X units, which reached 33% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X units), Turkey (X units), Israel (X units), Yemen (X units) and Morocco (X units), together comprising a 42% share of total imports. The following importers - Iran (X units), Djibouti (X units), Algeria (X units), Kuwait (X units), Libya (X units), Qatar (X units) and Egypt (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.
The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of balls. At the same time, Qatar (+29.5%), Yemen (+9.0%), Djibouti (+7.4%), Israel (+3.0%), Morocco (+2.3%) and Iraq (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2022. Kuwait experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (-2.1%), Turkey (-2.5%), Libya (-6.3%), Algeria (-9.1%) and Iran (-13.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Yemen (+4 p.p.), Iraq (+3 p.p.), Israel (+2.9 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+2.5 p.p.), Qatar (+2.3 p.p.), Djibouti (+2 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Libya (-1.6 p.p.), Algeria (-3.7 p.p.) and Iran (-8.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest ball importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X), together accounting for 51% of total imports. Morocco, Iraq, Qatar, Yemen, Egypt, Kuwait, Djibouti, Algeria, Iran and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
