Ceramic Tile Market Size in MENA

In 2022, the MENA's ceramic tile market increased by 2.3% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, consumption recorded a noticeable slump. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic tile production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 14%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA

After five years of growth, overseas shipments of ceramic tiles decreased by -7.8% to X square meters in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +76.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 23%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X square meters) and Egypt (X square meters) represented roughly 70% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Iran (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), together comprising a 22% share of total exports. The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X square meters), Tunisia (X square meters) and Oman (X square meters) - each finished at a 5.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +35.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest ceramic tile supplier in MENA, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +6.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-7.7% per year) and Egypt (-10.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per square meter), while Egypt ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, approx. X square meters of ceramic tiles were imported in MENA; with a decrease of -8.3% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of ceramic tiles, namely Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than third of total import. Iraq (X square meters) held a 7.1% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (6.1%), Libya (5.8%), Kuwait (5.8%), Yemen (5.4%) and Morocco (4.8%). Qatar (X square meters), Jordan (X square meters), Algeria (X square meters) and Lebanon (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +7.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 55% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, surging by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per square meter), while Yemen ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
