Cereal Market Size in MENA

In 2022, the average cereal yield in MENA declined to X tons per ha, flattening at 2021. Over the period under review, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the cereal yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. In value terms, cereal exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the key exporter of cereals in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (X%), Syrian Arab Republic (X%), Jordan (X%), Iran (X%) and the United Arab Emirates (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. While the share of Turkey (X p.p.), Oman (X p.p.) and Syrian Arab Republic (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the largest cereal supplier in MENA, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (X% per year) and Oman (X% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The purchases of the six major importers of cereals, namely Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Morocco, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
