Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 34%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, Algeria (X tons), distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) represented the main importers of chemical contraceptive preparations based on hormones or spermicides, together achieving 89% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +24.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
