Israel was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +68.7% from 2012 to 2022. Israel (+22 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X) also remains the largest spacecraft supplier in MENA.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 1,021% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Israel.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Israel amounted to +12.7% per year.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, the amount of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles imported in MENA contracted remarkably to X units, falling by -49.6% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a sharp decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 892%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spacecraft imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 634% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Egypt represented the key importer of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles in MENA, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 58% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Morocco (X units) and Israel (X units). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total imports.

Imports into Egypt increased at an average annual rate of +36.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+46.6%) and Israel (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +46.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-40.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Egypt (+58 p.p.), Morocco (+11 p.p.) and Israel (+10 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-80.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles in MENA, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 29% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Egypt stood at +22.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+74.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-45.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 40% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 540% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Israel ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+19.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
