Totaliser Market Size in MENA

In 2021, the MENA's totaliser market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total consumption indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -34.7% against 2018 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Totaliser Production in MENA

In value terms, totaliser production expanded rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 56% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Totaliser Exports

Exports in MENA

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of continuous and discontinuous totalisers decreased by -76.9% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 184% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, totaliser exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 89% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units) and Turkey (X units), together creating a 17% share of total exports.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the continuous and discontinuous totalisers exports, with a CAGR of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Turkey (-14.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+21 p.p.) and Morocco (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by -18.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest totaliser supplier in MENA, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to -22.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+3.4% per year) and Morocco (-5.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Totaliser Imports

Imports in MENA

In 2021, imports of continuous and discontinuous totalisers in MENA declined dramatically to X units, which is down by -20% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 197% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, totaliser imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Egypt (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2021. Turkey (X units) took the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Iran (X units). All these countries together took near 19% share of total imports. Morocco (X units), Djibouti (X units), Bahrain (X units), Israel (X units), Oman (X units), Algeria (X units), Lebanon (X units) and Kuwait (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +21.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported continuous and discontinuous totalisers in MENA, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with an 11% share.

In Turkey, totaliser imports declined by an average annual rate of -5.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (-7.7% per year) and Israel (+4.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 132% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Djibouti ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
