In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts, when their volume increased by 13% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, complex fluorine salts exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Tunisia (X tons) represented the major exporter of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts, creating 69% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Jordan (X tons). All these countries together took near 28% share of total exports.

Tunisia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts exports, with a CAGR of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021. Jordan (-6.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tunisia (+22 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Jordan and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -4.9% and -7.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest complex fluorine salts supplier in MENA, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.

In Tunisia, complex fluorine salts exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-0.9% per year) and Jordan (-6.6% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 29%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts, when their volume decreased by -17.9% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, complex fluorine salts imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Iran (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the main importer of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts in MENA, generating 96% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +8.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest complex fluorine salts importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Bahrain ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +6.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
