The MENA's gear box market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Gear Box Production in MENA
In value terms, gear box production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MENA
For the sixth consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in shipments abroad of gear boxes, which increased by 8.3% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, gear box exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the key exporter of gear boxes in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 70% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), mixing up a 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Morocco (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Oman (X units) - together made up 9.2% of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+23.3%), Oman (+23.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+22.1%) and Tunisia (+20.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012-2022. The United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.), Morocco (+2.4 p.p.) and Tunisia (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by -13.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest gear box supplier in MENA, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +8.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+17.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+12.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -3.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 3.8%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+12.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Gear Box Imports
Imports in MENA
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of gear boxes decreased by -3.1% to X units in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +18.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, gear box imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which reached 70% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units), together mixing up a 21% share of total imports. Iran (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to gear box imports into Turkey stood at +6.1%. At the same time, Morocco (+29.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +29.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Iran (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Morocco (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkey and Iran saw its share reduced by -2.2% and -6.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gear boxes in MENA, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +6.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (+26.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
