Industrial Fatty Alcohols Market Size in MENA
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the MENA's industrial fatty alcohols market, when its value increased by 8.3% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Industrial Fatty Alcohols Production in MENA
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 20%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MENA
In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of industrial fatty alcohols, when their volume decreased by -58.1% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 614%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 194%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), achieving a 5.2% share of total exports.
Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial fatty alcohols exports, with a CAGR of +34.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+92 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-15.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest industrial fatty alcohols supplier in MENA, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Saudi Arabia stood at +31.6%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.4%).
Industrial Fatty Alcohols Imports
Imports in MENA
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of industrial fatty alcohols increased by 21% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the largest importer of industrial fatty alcohols in MENA, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 50% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together mixing up a 33% share of total imports. Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +34.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+39.9%), Algeria (+11.4%) and Israel (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +39.9% from 2012-2021. Egypt and Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia increased by +47 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 80% of total imports. Egypt, Israel, Tunisia and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
Among the main importing countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +31.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable slump. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
