The MENA's industrial roundwood market declined to $X in 2022, shrinking by -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a slight decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, industrial roundwood production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MENA
In 2022, industrial roundwood exports in MENA contracted significantly to X cubic meters, shrinking by -29.3% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 144% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, industrial roundwood exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 161% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the main exporting country with an export of about X cubic meters, which reached 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters), mixing up a 17% share of total exports. Israel (X cubic meters), Jordan (X cubic meters) and Oman (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial roundwood exports, with a CAGR of +32.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Jordan (+23.4%), Israel (+17.4%) and Oman (+13.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Jordan and Israel increased by +68, +2.4 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Oman ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 90% of total exports. Israel and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.4%.
Israel, with a CAGR of +25.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per cubic meter, surging by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per cubic meter), while Turkey ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2022, overseas purchases of industrial roundwood increased by 29% to X cubic meters, rising for the second year in a row after five years of decline. Overall, imports, however, faced a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, industrial roundwood imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Egypt (X cubic meters) was the key importer of industrial roundwood, constituting 37% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Algeria (15%), Turkey (14%) and Morocco (5.8%). The following importers - Israel (X cubic meters) and Lebanon (X cubic meters) - each accounted for a 3.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Algeria (with a CAGR of +26.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 77% of total imports. Algeria, Morocco, Israel and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
Algeria, with a CAGR of +28.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, which is down by -3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per cubic meter), while Lebanon ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
