Insecticide Market Size in MENA

In 2021, the MENA's insecticide market decreased by -67.7% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after eight years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 80%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA

In 2021, the amount of insecticides exported in MENA fell to X tons, stabilizing at 2020. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, insecticide exports declined slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 54%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Israel (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together comprising 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Jordan (X tons), mixing up a 5.4% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest insecticide supplier in MENA, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Jordan, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Israel totaled +14.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+8.1% per year) and Jordan (+2.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, insecticide export price increased by +79.0% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 38% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of insecticides decreased by -8.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, insecticide imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 24%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Morocco (X tons), distantly followed by Algeria (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Djibouti (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Israel (X tons) were the major importers of insecticides, together comprising 74% of total imports. Libya (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Iran (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest insecticide importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Morocco ($X) and Algeria ($X), together accounting for 52% of total imports. These countries were followed by Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia and Libya, which together accounted for a further 40%.

Yemen, with a CAGR of +15.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
