Exports by Country
Bahrain prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 78% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together generating a 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kuwait (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - each amounted to a 6.1% share of total exports.
Bahrain was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iron or steel bridges and bridge-sections exports, with a CAGR of +203.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Jordan (+11.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-4.3%) and Kuwait (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Bahrain increased by +78 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Bahrain ($X) remains the largest iron or steel bridges supplier in MENA, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Bahrain totaled +192.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+2.1% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-5.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Iron Or Steel Bridges And Bridge-Sections
Imports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of iron or steel bridges and bridge-sections imported in MENA shrank slightly to X tons, stabilizing at 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, iron or steel bridges imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) dominates imports structure, together making up 77% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together generating a 14% share of total imports. Morocco (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +62.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest iron or steel bridges importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Morocco ($X), together accounting for 75% of total imports.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +71.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
