In value terms, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 73%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), comprising a 21% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tunisia (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) - each amounted to a 7.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +17.9%. At the same time, Tunisia (+20.8%) and Turkey (+18.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled +18.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+22.2% per year) and Tunisia (+15.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) imports totaled X units in 2022, increasing by 3.8% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Algeria (+26.0%), Iraq (+17.2%), Israel (+13.0%), Egypt (+8.3%), the United Arab Emirates (+6.9%), Lebanon (+5.8%) and Yemen (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +26.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey and Algeria increased by +16 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X), together accounting for 54% of total imports. Lebanon, Iraq, Algeria, Yemen and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +19.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
