In value terms, leather exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the key exporter of leather in Middle East and North Africa, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Algeria (X tons), Iraq (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+X%) and the United Arab Emirates (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Middle East and North Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (-X%), Saudi Arabia (-X%), Iraq (-X%), Tunisia (-X%) and Iran (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+X p.p.) and Egypt (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia, Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -X%, -X%, -X% and -X% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Imports in Middle East and North Africa

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of leather increased by X% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, leather imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey represented the main importer of leather in Middle East and North Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2021. Tunisia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Morocco (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
