Mica exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, with an increase of X% on 2020 figures. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mica exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the key exporter of mica in Middle East and North Africa, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), generating a X% share of total exports. Oman (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to mica exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +X%. At the same time, Turkey (+X%) and Oman (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Middle East and North Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. While the share of Turkey (+X p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Middle East and North Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Mica imports reduced to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -X% compared with the previous year. In general, imports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mica imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Kuwait represented the largest importer of mica in Middle East and North Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Iraq (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total imports. Yemen (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Kuwait was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mica imports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+X%), Tunisia (+X%), Iraq (+X%) and Yemen (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Israel experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Iran (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kuwait, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Tunisia and Israel increased by +X, +X, +X, +X, +X and +X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
