Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-electronic hydro- and hygrometers exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 50%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Tunisia (X units) represented the key exporter of non-electronic hydro-, hygro-, psychrometers, mixing up 73% of total exports. Turkey (X units) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (7%). The following exporters - Israel (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) - each amounted to a 7.5% share of total exports.

Exports from Tunisia increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+19.1%), Turkey (+14.2%), the United Arab Emirates (+10.8%) and Israel (+9.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +19.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates increased by +4.9, +2.3 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Tunisia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 79% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -34.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA

In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-electronic hydro-, hygro-, psychrometers increased by 4.1% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +56.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 50%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-electronic hydro- and hygrometers imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X units), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), Tunisia (X units), Kuwait (X units), Israel (X units) and Morocco (X units) represented the largest importers of non-electronic hydro-, hygro-, psychrometers, together committing 81% of total imports. Algeria (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +28.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-electronic hydro- and hygrometers importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports. Tunisia, Morocco, Kuwait and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +29.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Kuwait ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
