The MENA's other papers packaging market declined slightly to $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Other Papers Packaging Production in MENA

In value terms, other papers packaging production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 89%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA

In 2022, approx. X tons of other papers packaging were exported in MENA; growing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, other papers packaging exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the major exporter of other papers packaging in MENA, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (10%) and Egypt (7.1%). Tunisia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to other papers packaging exports from Turkey stood at +17.9%. At the same time, Tunisia (+66.9%), Egypt (+52.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (+41.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +66.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+20 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+12 p.p.), Egypt (+6.7 p.p.) and Tunisia (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -34.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest other papers packaging supplier in MENA, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 8.7% share.

In Turkey, other papers packaging exports increased at an average annual rate of +21.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+35.8% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-0.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, other papers packaging export price increased by +57.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 44%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Other Papers Packaging Imports

Imports in MENA

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of other papers packaging decreased by -1% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, other papers packaging imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the largest importers of other papers packaging in 2022, recording approx. 27% and 21% of total imports, respectively. Israel (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Algeria (8.6%), Morocco (8.5%) and Tunisia (7.4%). Iraq (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +53.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Among the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +51.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
