Cement prefabricated structural components exports shrank notably to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -51.2% on 2020. In general, exports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cement prefabricated structural components exports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 23%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) and Iran (X tons) represented the largest exporters of prefabricated structural components of cement, concrete or artificial stone in MENA, together constituting 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons), together constituting a 21% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iran (with a CAGR of +95.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+24.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA

In 2021, purchases abroad of prefabricated structural components of cement, concrete or artificial stone increased by 10% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cement prefabricated structural components imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 70%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Qatar (X tons) was the largest importer of prefabricated structural components of cement, concrete or artificial stone, achieving 38% of total imports. Kuwait (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Israel (X tons). All these countries together took near 34% share of total imports. The following importers - Turkey (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Oman (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - together made up 26% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement prefabricated structural components imports into Qatar stood at +34.3%. At the same time, Turkey (+52.4%), Jordan (+30.3%), the United Arab Emirates (+20.8%), Bahrain (+19.3%), Israel (+15.5%), Egypt (+15.1%), Morocco (+9.0%) and Kuwait (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +52.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.0%), Iraq (-7.0%), Algeria (-7.0%) and Oman (-27.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Qatar (+35 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+7.6 p.p.), Israel (+5.6 p.p.), Turkey (+4.4 p.p.), Jordan (+2.7 p.p.), Bahrain (+2.2 p.p.), Morocco (+2.2 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Iraq (-2 p.p.), Algeria (-3.3 p.p.) and Oman (-52.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Qatar ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prefabricated structural components of cement, concrete or artificial stone in MENA, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Qatar totaled +14.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+17.8% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-2.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
