Saccharin Market Size in MENA

In 2021, the MENA's saccharin market increased by 16% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. The total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +72.8% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, saccharin production rose significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 34%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MENA

For the third consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in shipments abroad of saccharin and its salts, which increased by 7.1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 197%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, saccharin exports expanded to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 201%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons), achieving an 8.2% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the saccharin and its salts exports, with a CAGR of +22.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+11.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Israel (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +49 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest saccharin supplier in MENA, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at +23.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (-5.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of saccharin and its salts were imported in MENA; increasing by 14% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 57%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 50%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Turkey dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), committing a 7.6% share of total imports. Iran (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the saccharin and its salts imports, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+11.3%) and Iraq (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Algeria and Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Israel (-9.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +45 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported saccharin and its salts in MENA, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 7.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +18.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (-1.3% per year) and Algeria (+7.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
