The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, ethylene polymer bag exports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2022. Palestine (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.3% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (6.1%), Israel (4.9%) and Saudi Arabia (4.5%). Iran (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ethylene polymer bag exports from Turkey stood at +11.5%. At the same time, Iran (+22.9%), Saudi Arabia (+15.0%), Israel (+14.2%), Palestine (+8.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +22.9% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Israel increased by +9.1, +1.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +3.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ethylene polymer bag imports amounted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Israel (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Oman (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) represented the largest importer of sacks and bags of polymers of ethylene in MENA, generating 86% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 48% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +13.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 9.7% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
